"Living in the midwest as a child gave me a profound sense of the scale and grandeur of the landscape. And nowhere is it more evident than when one is driving the narrow little single lane highways that connect lone farmhouses and clusters of houses. They represent the lifeline that connects the communities that live in the path of whatever Mother Nature sends one's way. This piece looks at that road and those little communities from a birds eye view, in order to illustrate the sheer massiveness of the land itself. It makes one profoundly humble to think of those little wood frame houses serving generations of farmers as shelter against the wrath of weather that is part of living out there." Constance Patterson

"Plains Geometry" presents a landscape dominated by a vast, open field under a sky filled with voluminous clouds. The field, bathed in a golden hue, draws the eye to a vanishing point on the horizon line at the center, where the land meets the sky. To the left, we see a diminishing line of structures. These buildings are characterized by geometric shapes with a vague depiction of trees. The use of light and shadow enhances the three-dimensionality of the shapes while contributing to the overall serene and contemplative ambiance of the scene. The sky is rendered with soft, swirling brushstrokes that suggest the movement of the clouds and add to the dynamic yet peaceful atmosphere of the composition.
