"Having a partially wooded property means there are always a couple of surprises each Summer that send me fetching the wildflower field guides, and the local farmers' markets are great reminders of just how much medicine is inherent in the Earth. The Herbalist's relationship with Nature is symbiotic: as she gathers her medicine, she encourages the plants to grow by tending them with care and harvesting with respect, taking only what she needs. In response to the generosity and abundance of the planet, she raises her bouquet in gratitude." Elizabeth Ladwig
"The Herbalist" portrays a woman standing on a rocky outcrop, barefoot, facing the viewer. She has long, flowing blonde hair that cascades down her back and is wearing a simple, sleeveless white dress with a ruffled hem that reaches just below her knees. She is holding a large bouquet of greenery and flowers up to her face, concealing her identity. The setting has a dreamlike quality, with a soft, diffused light emanating around the woman. The background features a subdued landscape with faintly visible hills or mountains and a muted, cloudy sky. There are a few birds in flight, adding a sense of movement and freedom to the otherwise tranquil scene. The overall color palette is quite muted, dominated by soft grays, greens, and the off-white of her dress. The artwork evokes a sense of mystery and a strong connection to nature.
