"Growing up, we took family vacations to the beach every Summer. I searched for seashells and other treasures while my sister sought out ghost crabs, giving each one a name. The Sea Spirit series was created after a vacation to the Pacific Coast. In the afterlife, a girl revisits memories of her childhood as she explores, plays, and reunites with flying friends along the vast shoreline. 'We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.' ~George Bernard Shaw." Elizabeth Ladwig
"Sea Spirit 1" portrays a dreamlike scene at the beach under a cloudy sky. A woman with long flowing hair, gazing out at the ocean, stands with her back to the viewer. She wears a flowing gown that whisks away into transparency near the bottom, capturing a memory of what used to be. The full moon dominates the sky, casting an eerie light upon the seascape. A few birds can be seen flying near the moon, adding movement to the composition. In the distance, a rocky island features a small structure. The palette consists of muted colors, primarily in tones of gray and bluish-gray that contribute to the moody and mysterious atmosphere of the piece. The artwork evokes a sense of solitude, reflection, and the blend of natural beauty with supernatural elements.
