"The strangest thing happens to me sometimes. When I cry, there can be a moment when I become fascinated by my emotional state. The focus of my thoughts shifts from the source of the emotion to the emotion itself, and I find myself assuming the role of an empathetic outside observer. As salt rolls down my cheeks, I try to step aside, making room for the emotion to penetrate every corner of my being. This process consumes me with an unexpected gratitude for being moved so deeply. Tears of loss coincide with tears of joy. It confuses me, and it makes me laugh. To be human is so very amazing." Elizabeth Ladwig
"Salty Sweet" portrays a surreal scene set in a rainy landscape. In the center, a person in a white, vintage-style dress with ruffled layers at the skirt, is caught within the rain. The water underfoot and the splash effects indicate that the figure is standing in a puddle, with ripples emanating from around their feet. Their movements depict a sense of freedom. The background reveals a muted natural setting that includes greenery, a rainbow faintly visible in the overcast sky, and raindrops visibly streaking through the air. A gull, stands close to the person, adds life to the scene. Overall, the artwork invokes an ethereal and otherworldly feeling, evoking themes of nature, transformation, and finding the good within the bad.
