"Sometimes it's dark. Sometimes we feel threatened. Sometimes there's chaos everywhere and we can't think straight. And, sometimes, we need to grant ourselves permission to make a different choice, to find stillness and beauty, to step outside ourselves so we can see the bigger picture. Sometimes we need to grant ourselves permission to experience peace." Elisabeth Ladwig

"Permission" is a surreal artwork depicting a female figure standing in a body of water. The figure is wearing a flowing, sheer gown that drapes elegantly down to where it merges with the water. Notably, the figure's head is missing, thus the figure resembles a manaquin, showcasing a headless but still upright posture. Above the scene, a dramatic and moody sky is painted with dark, ominous clouds in various shades of beige, black, and bronze. The clouds contribute to an atmosphere of tension and anticipation. Three birds are in flight within the sky's expanse, adding a sense of life and movement to the scene. The surrealist nature of the artwork brings forth themes of identity, the enlightenment of the figure, and an exploration of the unknown. The waterscape hints at calmness and stillness in contrast with the potential tumult suggested by the sky. The artwork is rich in metaphor and visual intrigue, inviting contemplation and interpretation.
