"Every once in a while I like to mail a surprise care package to a friend, not for any particular reason, but just because it’s fun. I fill a small box with a few favorite treasures, some of which might be homemade, purchased, or found. With all the time we spend communicating by email and text and tweet and chat, it brings joy to curate a thoughtful package with a handwritten note, and it’s guaranteed to brighten someone’s day. What are some of your favorite things? Maybe you love the warm aroma of apple cider in Autumn, curling up in a hammock with a good book, or the dew drops that collect so perfectly around a lady’s mantle leaf. If you had to re-write a verse of the song “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music, how would it go? Lemon in pastries and crisp snowy weather, Wishing wells, seashells, and polka-dot feathers, Listening in darkness while owl gently sings, These are a few of my favorite things… Go ahead. Open your brown paper packages tied up with string. Your favorite things are the Universe’s gifts to you." Elizabeth Ladwig
"Her Favorite Things" shows a whimsical scene set in a snowy landscape under a blue sky with scattered clouds and a visible moon. A pale horse stands to the left, adorned with bells attached to its mane. Beside it, a woman with blue hair dressed in a white, flowing gown faces forward, her head and the upper part of her face concealed by a stack of brown paper packages tied with red string. She holds the packages in front of her. Red roses are scattered down the front of her dress, and a vibrant blue cloth billows from her waist. To the left of the woman, a kitten with grey fur looks on, and a small, old-fashioned copper kettle with a red ribbon tied around it sits in the snow, surrounded by more red roses. Finally, a small assortment of birds fly in the background, contributing to the overall fantastical and dreamlike atmosphere of the scene. Snowflakes gently fall throughout, adding a serene and delicate feel to the image.
