I started this piece at an Oklahoma Sculpture Society sculpt-in. It's a gathering of sculptors who meet on a regular basis to share a model and the camaraderie of a shared interest for a day. I got to choose the models pose and after I got home I started to imagine the peaceful bed she was dreaming upon.
"Flower Bed" is a three-dimensional bronze sculpture. The sculpture features a female figure, depicted in a reclining pose, with the body's contours seamlessly integrated into a floral petal. The figure's hair and parts of the body melt into these natural elements, creating an impression of being one with nature. The figure's right arm rests across the abdomen while the left arm is positioned comfortably along the body. Floral motifs adorn the area around the figure's midsection, accentuating the fusion between the human form and plant-like elements. This intricate merging suggests a deep connection between the human form and organic life, emphasizing fluidity and a sense of growth or natural progression. The sculpture rests on a black base which contrasts and highlights the rich, warm tones of the bronze. The craftsmanship is detailed, capturing the graceful curves of the figure and the ornate characteristics of the leaf and floral designs.
