About Wanda Oliver
Wanda Oliver, a dynamic and innovative artist residing in Windom, Texas, has embarked on a transformative journey from software engineering to the vibrant world of fine arts. With a background rooted in math and computer science, Wanda's career began in the seemingly disparate field of software, yet her passion for creativity has always been a constant companion. Her artistic path has been diverse and exploratory, encompassing hand-sculpted ceramic relief tiles, warm glasswork, photography, and the intricate craft of handmade artist books. It is in the medium of oil and cold wax, however, that Wanda has discovered her true artistic voice, embracing painting as her primary form of expression.
Wanda's work is characterized by non-objective abstract expressionism, driven not by the visual world around her but by the emotional landscapes within. Her pieces are imbued with a desire to convey the ineffable truths that resonate in her soul, much like the hosannas she sang as a child wandering her family farm. She employs oil paint and cold wax on cradled wooden boards, often integrating hand-printed monotypes and monoprints. This innovative approach allows her to sculpt in low relief with paint, imbuing her work with a tactile and layered depth that echoes her earlier experiences with clay.
Despite being largely self-taught, Wanda has honed her skills through workshops, seminars, and community college courses. Her dedication and unique vision have begun to garner recognition in the art world. As a photographer, she has participated in several notable exhibitions, and as a painter, she is making her debut with her piece "Rosetta Stone" in the Abstract National Exhibition at Mark Arts in Wichita, Kansas. This marks an exciting new chapter in her artistic career, as she continues to push the boundaries of her creative expression.
In addition to her personal practice, Wanda is a passionate advocate for the arts within her community. She runs a small community studio and art school, driven by the belief that art is essential for a healthy society. Her long-term goals extend beyond personal success, aiming to manifest her art fully and boldly while also sharing her journey and inspiring others. Wanda aspires to create large-scale works, free from the constraints of practicality, and to leave a legacy of creativity that resonates beyond her lifetime.
