About Teresa Lynn Johnson
Teresa Lynn Johnson, a distinguished artist based in Aztec, New Mexico, captures the essence of the western landscape and its inhabitants with her evocative oil paintings. Born in Coleman, Texas, Teresa's formative years on a vast four-hundred-acre farm immersed her in the natural world, where her encounters with wildlife ignited a lifelong passion for animals and the outdoors. This foundational love for nature is evident in her work, which seamlessly blends impressionistic realism to portray the landscapes and creatures of the western United States.
Before committing to her artistic calling, Teresa explored a career as a software analyst, a path she balanced alongside raising a family. Her inherent creativity eventually led her to pursue oil painting, a medium she embraced with dedication. Her artistic journey was notably shaped by a year-long mentorship with renowned artist Kevin Macpherson, followed by further guidance under Jay Moore, and enriched through workshops with notable artists like Scott Christensen and Kathleen Dunphy. This diverse educational background, combined with a Fine Art Certification from Sessions Professional School of Design, has honed her distinctive style and technical proficiency.
Teresa’s work has graced numerous exhibitions and juried shows across the United States, earning recognition and accolades such as best in show. Her commitment to capturing the spirit and movement of her subjects is fueled by her own photographic references, gathered from travels across national parks and wildlife reserves. Recently, Teresa has begun experimenting with contemporary themes, expanding her repertoire to include a collection focused on birds and small wildlife, reflecting her adaptability and keen observation of artistic trends.
An active member of prestigious organizations like the American Women Artists (AWA) and Women Artists of the West (WAOW), Teresa is also an instructor at The Art Connection in Aztec, where she shares her passion and expertise. Despite her success, she remains grounded and approachable, embodying a philosophy of encouragement and support for fellow artists. Teresa continues to strive for artistic growth, with aspirations of gallery representation, while maintaining her commitment to creating art that resonates with her love for the natural world.
