Robert Benson, a distinguished watercolorist based in Santa Rosa, California, skillfully captures the essence of Northern California's landscapes through his evocative and accessible paintings. Born with an innate passion for the arts, Robert's journey began in high school, where he honed his design and drafting skills. This early foundation led him to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, where he graduated with honors in Visual Communications and Graphic Design in 1975. His career flourished as he moved westward to Colorado, immersing himself in a dynamic outdoor lifestyle and establishing a successful 25-year tenure as an art director, graphic designer, and illustrator in Denver.

During his time in Denver, Robert specialized in airbrush illustration, working with prestigious clients such as Coors and The Denver Post, and developed a unique mixed-media style incorporating watercolor dyes and colored pencils. His work gained significant recognition, with his first solo exhibition in 1995 selling half of the displayed pieces on opening night. His talent was further acknowledged when Schneider Securities acquired eight of his original watercolors for their corporate offices. A pioneer in digital media, Robert served as Visual Director for Cimarron International, contributing to cutting-edge interactive media projects for Fortune 500 companies.

In 2001, Robert relocated to Sonoma County, California, where he shifted his focus back to the fine arts, particularly watercolor and acrylic painting. Engaging with the vibrant local art community, he exhibited in art groups, co-op galleries, and wineries, relishing the opportunity to connect with art enthusiasts in person. His contributions to the art world in Northern California include teaching watercolor classes and conducting demonstration workshops, fostering a deep connection with his community.
