About Paul Henry

Paul Henry is an accomplished American artist whose journey from the bustling streets of New York City to the serene landscapes of New River, Arizona, has profoundly shaped his artistic vision. Initially making his mark as an illustrator, Henry spent two decades in the competitive world of commercial art, crafting evocative movie posters, book covers, and magazine illustrations. His transition to fine art was marked by a pivotal exhibition at SOHO's Buffalo Chip, which ignited his passion for painting full-time. Embracing the vast open spaces of the West, he established his home and studio in the tranquil hills of the Sonoran Desert, a landscape that continues to inspire his vivid palette and dynamic compositions.

Henry's work is characterized by an impressionistic style that breathes life into the canvas through layers of color and texture. His choice of oil on linen as a medium allows him to explore the depth and richness of the desert's hues, often incorporating elements of abstraction to evoke a sense of movement and emotion. The secluded beauty of the Sonoran Desert is a constant muse, influencing his artistic process and infusing his paintings with a strong sense of place and atmosphere.

Educated at the du Cret School of Art, Paul Henry honed his skills under the mentorship of renowned artist Michael Dudash during an apprenticeship in Waitsfield, Vermont. His talent has been recognized through prestigious accolades, including participation in the Society of Illustrators' 26th Annual National Exhibit, an Art Direction Magazine Creativity Award, and honors from the Art Directors Club in NYC. These achievements underscore his ability to transcend traditional boundaries, making a seamless transition from commercial illustration to the more personal realm of fine art.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Henry's passion for motorcycles adds another dimension to his creative life. A lifelong rider and former professional motocrosser, his love for the open road mirrors the freedom and exploration evident in his paintings. Whether building custom bikes or traversing new landscapes, Paul Henry's adventurous spirit and dedication to his craft continue to drive his artistic journey, as he remains committed to the simple yet profound goal: to paint.
