About Liesel Lund
Liesel Lund is a dynamic artist whose vibrant oil paintings capture the essence of landscapes, florals, and animals with a distinctive blend of representational and impressionistic styles. Based in Freeland, Washington, on the picturesque Whidbey Island, Lund draws inspiration from the stunning natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, as well as her extensive travels to places like Arizona and California. Her work is celebrated for its rich color palettes, lively brushwork, and strong compositions, all of which contribute to the emotional resonance and joy that collectors frequently find in her paintings.
A third-generation artist, Lund’s creative journey is deeply influenced by her familial heritage, with her grandmother's ceramic bead and fiber artistry and her mother's traditional quilting and garden design enriching her artistic narrative. She honed her craft through formal education in fine art and scientific illustration at The Evergreen State College, the University of Washington, and the Gage Academy of Art. Further refining her skills, she studied under accomplished artists such as Aimee Erickson, Jeff Legg, Kathleen Speranza, and Maggie Siner.
Lund's career is marked by a diverse array of creative pursuits, from establishing a nature education center during her time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand to designing graphics for notable exhibits like Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo's Butterflies and Blooms. Her foray into textile design for Tommy Bahama and her venture into jewelry design reflect her multifaceted talents. Since 2009, she has dedicated herself wholly to her art, transitioning from watercolors to oils and embracing plein air painting alongside studio work, which has become a significant part of her artistic expression.
Liesel Lund’s art has been recognized in esteemed exhibitions such as Cole Gallery's Edmonds & Beyond Plein Air Show, cementing her status as a respected figure in the art community. Her long-term goal is to continue spreading joy through her artwork, a mission she fulfills by creating pieces that not only captivate the eye but also uplift the spirit, leaving a lasting impression on those who encounter her art.
