Kim Freeman, an accomplished artist based in Nelson, British Columbia, draws inspiration from the stunning Kootenay mountains and tranquil lake views that surround her. Her work bridges the realms of representation and formal abstraction, capturing the natural beauty of her environment while exploring the expressive potential of paint. Freeman’s art invites viewers to appreciate the world through her unique and nuanced perspective.
Growing up in a creative household with her father, a successful fine artist, Freeman’s passion for art was evident from an early age. She honed her skills at the University of Calgary, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and further expanded her expertise through workshops in drawing, color theory, oil painting, and photography. This diverse foundation enriches her work, offering depth and versatility.
Freeman primarily employs traditional techniques, using a variety of drawing tools and working with acrylics and oils. She is also exploring new mediums such as encaustic painting and mono printing, promising to add fresh dimensions to her evolving portfolio. As a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, her work has been featured in numerous juried exhibitions, gaining recognition for its emotive quality and technical proficiency.
Since retiring from the paint and decorating industry in 2017, Freeman has pursued her art career with dedication and passion. As she nears her 70th birthday, she remains committed to realizing her dream of sustaining a successful art practice, continually pushing the boundaries of her creativity to share the beauty she perceives with the world.
