About Katherine Faubion

Katherine Blanchard Faubion is a fourth-generation Seattle artist whose work spans large-scale painting and sculptural pieces created from retired string instruments. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, her work emphasizes color, renewal, and emotional resonance.

In addition to her canvases, Katherine has developed a distinctive body of work transforming violins, violas, cellos, and upright basses into sculptural art objects. Each instrument is carefully prepared and flooded with color in her signature style, merging classical form with contemporary treatment. The collection ranges from intimate 1/16 violins to six-foot-tall double basses, honoring each instrument’s elegant silhouette and material history while giving it new life.

Through the revival of these timeless instruments, Katherine explores the relationship between sound and sight, decline and renewal. Familiar profiles once defined by music are reimagined as visual works that invite reflection on craftsmanship, memory, and possibility.

Now retired from a career as a court reporter, Katherine devotes herself fully to her artistic practice. Her work is exhibited throughout Washington State as she continues to expand her reach and share her work with a wider audience.
