Title: Amelia Earhart Bench-Life-Sized

Dimensions: 52"h x 66"w

"For me, Amelia Earhart and her entire legacy represents the epitome of courage, tenacity and persistence! It’s all summed up in her quote that I absolutely had to include engraved on the bench, in my depiction of her: 'Everyone has oceans to fly, if they have the heart to do it. Is it reckless? Maybe. But what do dreams know of boundaries?' That quote is exactly why I chose to depict Amelia attired in her unmistakable flight gear and looking upward. Aside from sculpting her beautiful likeness and lithe, airy figure, my other favorite elements to sculpt were her leather cap and particularly her flight goggles. They represent the vision and precedence she so totally embraced for the women of her and all eras, to rise above. In spite of her fateful demise at the young age of 39, Amelia’s courage will forever be an inspiration for all of us to ascend any stigmas or prejudices. Thank you Ms. Earhart!" Gary Lee Price

Part of Price's Great Contributor series, this is a bronze sculpture of Amelia Earhart seated casually on a bench. The figure is dressed in iconic aviator attire with a scarf tied at the neck. Earhart is wearing knee-high boots and exhibits a relaxed posture, with one arm extended along the backrest of the bench. The sculpture includes details such as the folds in the clothing, the texture of the hair, and an aviator hat on the bench beside the figure. The bench is also part of the sculpture, detailed to resemble wooden slats and metal armrests. This sculpture creates an interactive experience, inviting viewers to sit beside the person depicted.
