"You'd think I had an insanely troubled childhood. On the contrary. But for far too many people in the world, splotches and grit and empty, undefined horizons are all too real. I can't begin to imagine what this girl's life has thrown at her, but I look at her and immediately want to help her, to talk to her. I want to learn her story. There is a stillness in her, a surrender, that diametrically opposes her struggle and emotional confusion. But even though her flimsy little boat is found trapped in a watering hole, sunny yellow flowers find the will to sprout up from between the rusty rock... and something luminous and peaceful about the distant horizon seems to keep her fixated on a glimmer of hope."
