Today I made sun tea and added peppermint and lemon balm from the garden. Lemon balm is in the mint family, as are basil, rosemary, thyme, sage, and lavender. In fact, the mint family comprises over **3,000** species of plants. That’s just the mint family! As I cut a few sprigs, a ruby-throated hummingbird swooped down from a pine branch to sip nectar from a spotted touch-me-not. The hummingbird is one of over 9,000 recorded bird species. There are over 60,000 kinds of trees across the globe, and hundreds of thousands of flowering plant species. Our oceans are filled with 200,000 identified species of sea life, from the familiar to the fantastical, with so many more to discover... and, donning exoskeletal suits of armor from pre-Triassic times are millions of insect varieties. MILLIONS. If Mother Nature has taught us anything, it is the infinity of possibility. We are encouraged to find inspiration in diversity, and to never stop dreaming no matter how out-of-this-world our dreams may seem. There is always more to discover ~ and if we can dream it, we can create it.
