"As I gaze out the window, the scene is bland. Grasses and mosses remain desaturated from a dark Winter, and the herb garden is brown. Swirling gusts of wind cause our old trees to creak... a maple, a pine... Please don't fall. The bare, thorny brush waves frantically as it is shaken out of its cold slumber. The only visible stillness is in the rocks I gathered years ago to line the wooded edge. In a few more days it will be Spring, and while some of the faded life will return, I accept that some will not. But I recently discovered the following words: "Don't be afraid to start over. You might like your new story better." Maybe I will. Maybe the seeds of newcomers will take root here. Maybe I should get started on this new story, one that, as the winds die down, promises a safe place to land." Elisabeth Ladwig

"A Safe Place to Land" features a dreamlike scene, a digital composite, that depicts a woman hanging from a branch mid-air. She is dressed in a flowing red dress, dissolving and transforming into rose petals at the bottom. These petals are scattered in the air and accumulate on the ground beneath her. Her body is angled, with her head leaning downwards and her bare feet pointing upwards, showing movement and a sense of weightlessness and suspension. The background consists of a vast grassy field under a cloudy sky, with an isolated tree and a small house in the distance. A bird is perched near the pile of petals on the ground. The overall ambiance is whimsical and ethereal, with a calm yet melancholic atmosphere.
