His late start in the art scene, beginning with a watercolor class at age 45, demonstrates his passionate pursuit of creativity. Influenced by mentors like Gordon Haas and enriched by workshops with artists such as Arne Westerman and Claudia Hartley, Sheppard honed a distinctive style he terms 'Vivid Mystical Landscapes.' This style beautifully marries the realism of the natural world with an ethereal, otherworldly dimension, making his work both captivating and spiritually evocative.
