Arpad Petrass is an innovative self-taught photographer and painter based in Capistrano Beach, California. With a foundation in theatre design, holding an MFA in the field, Petrass spent over 45 years as a scenic and lighting designer, lending his creative vision to more than 300 productions in theatre, opera, and dance. This rich history in the performing arts deeply informs his visual artwork, where his mastery of light and composition plays a pivotal role. Today, Petrass channels his extensive experience into evocative photography and painting, crafting a diverse portfolio that transcends traditional boundaries of style and form.
Petrass's work is characterized by its bold colors, expressive movement, and emotional depth. He skillfully combines various materials and techniques, including acrylic fluid paints, encaustic wax, and resin, to create pieces that resonate on a visceral level.
